Short local bike routes

Lots of requests about cycle routes that are not too taxing, are suitable for children and families. I will put up links to different routes over the next while.

Lanigan’s Lock to Sleatty and home

A couple of kilometres on the Barrow Track, wheel off at Lanigans Lock and head across towards Killeshin Church on a really quiet minor road. Don’t turn up to the church, continue straight and take a right onto the Castlecomer road. After 200 metres turn right across by Killeshin GAA and down onto the Portlaoise Road. Take a left and then a right and follow the road around to the right. It brings you back into Graiguecullen.

thanks for this info, especially on the Barrow track. Just getting the bikes ready now. Re kids a good place to start them would be down at St Mullins where they get a good surface for a while before hitting the grass.

The weather hasn’t been too kind for cycling I’m afraid but I hope you managed to get in some of the lovely tow path over the summer.
