One of the loveliest stretches of the Barrow lies between Goresbridge and Graiguenamanagh. 30kms out and back. The track is perfect for cycling (apart from where it has been ‘improved’). If you want to go the whole way and return give yourself 2 hours. Lots to see and hear, unspoilt and safe. It really is a walkers paradise in particular.
Lots of requests about cycle routes that are not too taxing, are suitable for children and families. I will put up links to different routes over the next while.
A couple of kilometres on the Barrow Track, wheel off at Lanigans Lock and head across towards Killeshin Church on a really quiet minor road. Don’t turn up to the church, continue straight and take a right onto the Castlecomer road. After 200 metres turn right across by Killeshin GAA and down onto the Portlaoise Road. Take a left and then a right and follow the road around to the right. It brings you back into Graiguecullen.
I was delighted to be asked to give a talk yesterday morning in the Library about cycle routes in Carlow and the benefits of cycling for National Bike Week.
Here is a link to the presentation. It includes various video clips which you need to click on to view.
