Off Road or on Road?
I am hoping to complete as much of the route as possible off road. The pilgrim path has been identified by a dedicated group, the Confraternity of Pilgrims to Jerusalem but it has yet to be way marked.
What bike to use? What to pack?
Mountain bikes are probably best option as they can take a bit if hardship; the loss of speed is the only drawback – but who’s in a hurry? A recent development in mtb design is the creation of 29ers. These are used by a lot of off roaders in the US and especially those doing long distance routes such as The Great Divide.
I notice many of these tourers don’t go with conventional panniers and travel very light. They are using seat bags by Revelate.
